Pyridinium Para Toluene Sulfonate (PPTS) is a mild, organic-soluble acidic catalyst. It is essentially a salt formed from the reaction of pyridine and p-toluenesulfonic acid ($PTSA$). In organic chemistry, it is preferred over stronger acids because it allows for the selective protection or deprotection of functional groups without damaging acid-sensitive parts of a molecule.
